Tools To Empower The Streamlined Environment

Game engines offer developers a complete development solution including rendering, sound, animation, asset export, level editing, etc. Although this can be an advantage in some situations, it also means that the developers are forced to adapt to a completely new development environment and sometimes methodology. In our experience, many game studios have already invested heavily in both in-house and third party tools. Adopting a new game engine often means throwing it all away and starting from scratch. Our technology offers those developers an easy solution for upgrading legacy systems easily and efficiently. Our simple, flexible design integrates easily with existing systems, and numerous examples are provided.

  • Shading Technology
  • Silicon Studio offers shading technology including shader generation, management, and a wealth of shaders and post processing effects. Our design goals of efficiency, simplicity, and flexibility have produced a system which is easy to integrate, easy to learn, and is available now on numerous platforms.

    • Our solution is composed of two parts:

    • DAIKOKU: ASP (“Advanced Shader Pipeline”), is a multi-platform next generation rendering engine that utilizes a programmable shader that enables game developers to make use of the state-of-the-art shading techniques without ever writing shader codes.

    • YEBIS: PPFX (“Pithy Post Effects”), is a multi-platform library that offers various real-time post-effect features to the game developers’ environment. Utilizing the High Dynamic Range rendering technique, YEBIS adds post-effects including glare, depth of field (de-focusing), optical simulation and color correction to the rendering process enabling more natural and realistic scenes.

  • Our Solution
  • Ease of use : Developers with little to no shader experience can take advantage of years of R&D to exploit the full power of modern graphics hardware. Shader programmers can easily integrate custom shaders with standard functionality.
  •

  • Ease of integration : The simple API integrates easily with all major graphics APIs and supports multiple platforms.
  •

  • Jump start on development : Cross-development using PCs is possible without the hassles associated with building a workflow for next-gen platforms.
  •

  • Leverage existing technology : Unlike full game engines, our shading technology integrates easily with existing codebases permitting the re-use of in-house or third party solutions already in place.
  •

  • Shorter development time : a wide variety of advanced effects are already implemented and ready to use. Shader programmers are freed from the mundane tasks of shader management and can focus on effect development.
  •

  • Stable base for customization and extension : DAIKOKU and YEBIS are proven technologies resulting from years of experience with game platform and embedded systems.
  •

  • Wealth of samples, tutorials, and tools : Working samples and tutorials serve as both a reference for integrating DAIKOKU and YEBIS and as starting points for new development. Sample tools include real time shader preview and export from major art packages.

  • About Origin of DAIKOKU / YEBIS
    - Silicon Studio's The Seven Lucky Gods -
  • The Seven Lucky Gods is the seven gods of good fortune in Japanese myth and folklore, are often depicted on their ship, the Takarabune, or "Treasure Ship." The pantheon that composes the seven gods is Ebisu, Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Benten, Hotei [touto], Jurojin, and Fukurokuju. We wish "God of wealth" to be brought to the game development environment and the market development, named to the middleware group that specialized in shading and the post effect of the original development engine "DAIKOKU", "YEBIS ", and the real time 3D VFX tool, "BISHAMON ". With those tools, each one offering a different power just like a myth seven gods of fortune, we are aiming to empower to streamline the game development environment and making development acceleration happen.
